Non-Circulating Methanation Technology

1. Technical Description

The "Non-circulating Methanation Technology" is a "Non-circulating Methanation Process Technology" developed in collaboration by Beijing Huafu Engineering Co., Ltd., Dalian Ruike Technology Co., Ltd., and China Coal Energy Heilongjiang Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. It has passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. The appraisal result is that the "comprehensive technical level has reached the international advanced level."

2. Technical Features

The technology eliminates the need for a circulation compressor, resulting in significant energy savings; it employs a分级调剂 technology for H/C ratio, providing flexible and convenient control means; it uses a self-developed, novel high-temperature-resistant methanation catalyst, breaking the monopoly of foreign catalysts in the methanation field; and it has developed a new type of methanation reactor, simplifying the structure.

3. Technology Application

The first demonstration project is the "Inner Mongolia Gangyuan Chemical Co., Ltd.'s 100 million Nm³ LNG per year" project. The construction of this project marks a new level for the "Non-circulating Methanation Process Technology" developed by Huafu in the field of domestic coal-to-natural gas technology in China. This technology is of great significance for improving the level of domestication of coal-to-natural gas technology in China and addressing air pollution and environmental improvement.

4. Technology Certification

On November 23, 2015, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation organized an expert group, chaired by Professor Jin Yong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering from Tsinghua University, to appraise the Non-circulating Methanation Process Technology. The appraisal conclusion was that the "comprehensive technical level has reached the international advanced level."

On April 27, 2016, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation organized an expert group led by Professor Jin Yong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering from Tsinghua University, to review the process package. The review concluded that “all design indicators have reached the international advanced level, meeting the needs of large-scale methanation device construction, and have the conditions for promotion and application within the industry.”

On March 9, 2015, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Finance jointly issued the "Industrial Coal Clean and Efficient Utilization Action Plan (2015-2020)," which laid out the plan for clean and efficient utilization of coal in the industrial sector and recommended 21 technologies for clean and efficient utilization of coal in the industrial field. The technology for the synthesis of natural gas from synthesis gas through two-stage non-circulating methanation (the predecessor of the non-circulating methanation technology) was included in the list.
